Staff Accountant
About the role
This highly visible role works in operational accounting support, offering the opportunity to make a direct impact across finance, payroll, and business operations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and post payroll journal entries with accuracy and proper account classification
- Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts including wages payable, payroll taxes, benefits, and accruals
- Ensure payroll expenses are recorded timely and in accordance with GAAP
- Partner with HR and Payroll teams to resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate employee data
- Support payroll audits and compliance reporting, including taxes, benefits, and deductions
- Auxiliary with payroll accounting activities related to international operations in Mexico and Canada
- Perform accounting transactions and reporting within SAP (FI/CO modules preferred)
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in SAP
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Analyze variances and research differences between payroll systems and SAP
- Support cost center accounting and internal financial reporting using SAP data
- Prepare and submit sales and use tax filings, ensuring timely remittance and compliance with state and local regulations
- Maintain sales tax records, support audits, and research tax rates and jurisdictional requirements
- Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, including invoice review, payment processing, cash application, and issue resolution
- Provide backup coverage for AP and AR during peak periods or team absences
- Assist with preparation of financial statements and management reports
- Support internal and external audit requests
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Identify opportunities for process improvements across payroll, sales tax, AP/AR, and SAP processes
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the accounting team
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
- CPA certification preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in accounting, preferably in a corporate setting
- Strong proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Proactive and results-driven approach
