Staff Accountant
About the role
The Staff Accountant position plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity and operational efficiency at the resort. This role is responsible for accurately processing financial transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, balance sheet transactions, cash, and supporting month-end and year-end closing activities. The position helps to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls while providing timely financial information on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis as needed. The Staff Accountant directly supports the Director of Finance in optimizing performance to budget, forecasts, and financial reporting processes. This role is the primary liaison for various operational leaders across the resort for all Accounting business needs.
Responsibilities
- Process and review daily financial information through standardized income audit processes and guidelines.
- Reconcile cash and bank statements and ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support offsite Accounting team in accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely posting of invoices, processing of payments, and collection of funds.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date accounting records and documentation to include purchase orders, receiving records, credit card receipts and chargebacks, daily income audit, and night audit packets.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with payroll processing and related tax filings as needed.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting department.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, M3, SUN, SAP, OneStream, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting within a hotel or resort setting.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiar with balancing daily revenue receipts and reconciling accounts accordingly.
- Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and USALI.
