About the role
The Staff Accountant position plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of TheKey's financial processes. Reporting to the Controller, this role oversees various accounting functions and supports the broader accounting team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee fixed and intangible assets, deferred cloud software capitalization, accounts receivable, and debt management.
- Execute month-end close tasks, including general ledger account reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and financial report preparation.
- Support the budgeting process and assist with annual audits.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
- Develop, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and department documentation.
- Leverage AI tools to streamline workflows and optimize team efficiency.
- Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- CPA designation or active CPA candidacy preferred.
- 2+ years of cumulative accounting experience; background in public accounting or with a publicly traded company is highly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, lookups (V/XLOOKUP), and macros.
- Experience in the service industry is a distinct plus.
- Thrive in fast-paced environments, consistently delivering high-quality results under tight deadlines.
- Prioritize duties effectively and partner effectively with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and support shared business objectives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally across all organizational levels.

- Meticulous attention to detail, highly organized, and a strong logical thinker.
- Solutions-oriented with robust analytical and pattern-recognition skills.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling highly sensitive and confidential financial information.
Qualifications
- Ability to safely lift and carry up to 15 pounds as needed.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Competent in operating standard office equipment, including personal computers, laptops, and other workplace technologies.
- Highly self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal daily supervision.
- Able to maintain composure, focus, and productivity in a fast-paced environment.
