About the role
The Staff Accountant provides a high degree of accounting support and performs a variety of accounting tasks of moderate complexity with a high level of confidentiality. They perform work utilizing judgment within prescribed standards (US GAAP) and procedures, and will be heavily involved in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
Responsibilities
- Prepares commission statement reconciliations in Excel to create payroll files and journal entries.
- Prepares commission true-up calculations and journal entries as needed, correcting accrual entries for advisor commissions.
- Processes work with a sense of urgency and high-level attention to detail.
- Reviews work product for accuracy and opportunities to improve processes.
- Provides a high level of customer service for inquiries from regional growth leads, contracting, and external agents.
- Follows established protocols for processing balanced with analysis for future change.
- Works well in a small team environment; comfortable with backing up others and ensuring responsibilities are documented and repeatable.
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures specific to the role.
- Looks for opportunities to improve the organization, business segments, and processes.
- Brings issues and discrepancies to appropriate leaders while identifying potential solutions.
Requirements
- Four-year degree in accounting or related field with at least three years’ prior applicable work experience.
- Medicare commission, health, or insurance accounting experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Demonstrates the organization’s core values, exuding behavior aligned with the firm’s culture.
