Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establishes and preserves accounting records and financial documentation by maintaining assigned ledgers, completing journal entries, preparing trial balances, and completing monthly reconciliations.
  • Maintains and balances the property general ledger and prepares or reviews all necessary journal entries as required.
  • Reviews, researches and reconciles daily revenue journal entries.
  • Review, analyze and audit balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure transaction data is flowing accurately to general ledger.
  • Summaries the current and projected financial position of the casino by analyzing financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital; prepares balance sheets, and profit and loss statements.
  • Makes recommendations regarding the policy and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency in maintaining financial records; implements audit procedures to reduce internal loss.
  • Prepares and ensures accuracy of federal, state, and tribal tax reports and filings by collecting and analyzing appropriate data.
  • Closes and balances accounts by determining necessary entries to reflect information not recorded or posted to the department’s accounting system. Determines and identifies sources of errors or discrepancies and initiates corrective actions as required.
  • Complies with all established Internal Control Policies and Procedures, State Compact, NIGC MICS, and Tribal Gaming Commission Office.
  • Supports a professional and technical environment by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; and, participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Provide accurate accounting assistance of the general ledger.
  • Assists in the preparation of complete and accurate internal financial statements and accounting records.
  • Prepares and maintains balance sheet and income statement accounts as assigned.
  • Prepares bank and payroll reconciliations as assigned.
  • Affixes to the month-end general ledger close and preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Post and reconcile financial activities providing complete, accurate and timely reconciliations and reports for management, auditors, regulatory agencies and financial institutions as assigned.
  • Assists in the monthly analysis of revenue and expenditures accounts to determine if discrepancies exist and investigate these amounts.
  • Ability to analyze account variances and provide detailed explanations to management.
  • Promptly prepare specialized management accounting reports on an as-needed basis.
  • Back up at least one other staff accountant as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting is required unless waived by Executive Management.
  • Four (4) years of accounting experience, preferably in gaming industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication, analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Must be 21 or older.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, obtain and maintain gaming license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems.
  • Knowledge of finance, budgeting, accounting and cost control procedures.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports.
  • Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the work environment is indoors with a low noise level and employee may occasionally be exposed to cigarette smoke.
