About the role
The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of the hotel by maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, and assisting in budgeting and auditing processes. This position ensures compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and applicable laws while supporting the day-to-day accounting activities of the hotel.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow reports.
- Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely and accurate payments and collections.
- Maintain detailed records of financial transactions and enter data into accounting systems.
- Support payroll processing and employee expense reimbursements.
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing supporting documentation.
- Prepare journal entries and perform monthly closing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and assist with tax filings (e.g., occupancy taxes, sales taxes).
- Monitor and analyze hotel revenues and expenses, flagging discrepancies or areas of concern.
- Collaborate with department heads to support budget tracking and cost control initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of financial information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry.
- Experience with hotel accounting systems (e.g., OPERA, Micros, Sage, QuickBooks, M3) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
