Temporary-to-permanent opportunity for a Staff Accountant at a law firm.
Responsibilities
- Record and review journal entries, including accruals and other period-end adjustments, to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Perform reconciliations for general ledger accounts, bank activity, and supporting subledgers, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Contribute to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes by preparing schedules and validating accounting data.
- Maintain organized financial documentation and ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
- Provide support for accounts payable and accounts receivable activities when additional accounting assistance is needed.
- Prepare account reconciliations, reporting schedules, and supporting analyses for internal stakeholders and audit requests.
- Help uphold compliance with accounting policies, financial controls, and applicable reporting standards.
- Assist with financial statement support, including review of fluctuations and follow-up on variance explanations.
- Collaborate with internal departments to investigate issues, correct errors, and strengthen accounting workflows.
- Support audit, tax, and special project activities, including work related to corporate tax and sales tax requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
- At least 1 year of accounting experience is preferred in a corporate environment.
- Working knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation practices.
- Familiarity with accounting principles and the fundamentals of financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using accounting or ERP systems.
- Exposure to tax-related work, including corporate tax, sales tax, or corporate tax return support, is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
