Staff Accountant
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly financial statements and account reconciliations for assigned properties.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain general ledger activity, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and submit HUD-required financial reports and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with HUD regulations, affordable housing requirements, and company policies.
- Monitor cash balances and assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts, tenant receivables, security deposits, and reserve accounts.
- Assist with annual audits, regulatory reviews, and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with property management teams to resolve accounting and operational issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in general accounting, grant accounting, or a similar financial reporting role.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and month-end journal entry preparation.
- Experience using general ledger and computerized accounting systems, along with intermediate Excel skills.
- Familiarity with HUD housing programs, subsidy processes, and regulatory reporting is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with careful attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with auditors, agency contacts, and cross-functional stakeholders.
