Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a transportation equipment manufacturing organization in Lincoln, Nebraska.

About the role

This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with period-end close activities, and preparing reports that help leadership evaluate business performance. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sound knowledge of general accounting practices, and the ability to investigate discrepancies and improve reporting accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Manage fixed asset records, including additions, disposals, depreciation activity, and periodic audit support.
• Review, process, and monitor employee expense submissions while ensuring proper coding, policy compliance, and accurate reimbursement reporting.
• Contribute to treasury-related activities by assisting with cash management tasks, account monitoring, and related financial documentation.
• Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial statements and management reports on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Support tax and regulatory reporting by compiling information required for filings and submissions to applicable agencies.
• Record journal entries and make adjustments needed to maintain complete and accurate accounting data.
• Analyze financial results, investigate unexpected fluctuations, and reconcile account balances to resolve variances.
• Perform detailed general ledger and account reconciliations, including support for consolidated financial reporting and month-end close activities.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.
• Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes.
• Experience with fixed asset accounting, expense report review, and financial statement preparation.
• Familiarity with sales tax, corporate tax concepts, and support for corporate tax return reporting.
• Ability to analyze financial statements, identify discrepancies, and recommend corrective adjustments.
• Experience assisting with audits and preparing documentation for internal or external review.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple reporting deadlines.
