About the role
We are partnering with a growing investment and property-focused organization seeking a Staff Accountant on a contract basis to help support a busy accounting team. This role offers the opportunity to work within a multi-entity environment, assisting with the accounting operations behind a diverse portfolio of assets and investments. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accrual-based accounting and be comfortable working through account reconciliations, transaction analysis, month-end close activities, and general ledger maintenance. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys digging into the details, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring financial activity is accurately recorded.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments
- Support month-end and year-end close activities
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules
- Maintain general ledger activity across multiple entities
- Assist with intercompany entries and reconciliations
- Review and analyze transactions to ensure accuracy and proper account coding
- Support cash activity review and account reconciliation processes
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and record depreciation activity
- Track and reconcile prepaid expenses, capital expenditures, and construction-in-progress activity
- Assist with financial statement preparation and internal reporting
- Update roll-forwards and support balance sheet cleanup initiatives
- Provide light accounts payable and accounts receivable support as needed
- Assist with audit preparation and supporting documentation requests
Requirements
- 3+ years of Staff Accountant experience
- Strong accrual-based accounting knowledge
- Experience with journal entries, accruals, and month-end close
- Strong balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis skills
- Experience with intercompany transactions preferred
- Exposure to fixed assets, prepaids, and general ledger accounting
- Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
- Ability to research discrepancies and resolve accounting issues independently
- Experience in a multi-entity environment preferred
- ERP experience required; property accounting experience is a plus
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
