Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support a short-term contract assignment in New York, New York. This one-week opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can step in quickly to help address a backlog related to a sales tax audit while maintaining accuracy across core accounting activities.

Responsibilities

• Support sales tax audit activities by organizing financial records, reviewing documentation, and helping resolve outstanding items within project timelines.
• Prepare and post journal entries to keep accounting records accurate and up to date during the assignment.
• Perform general ledger analysis to identify discrepancies, validate balances, and assist with corrective actions as needed.
• Complete account reconciliations with careful attention to detail to ensure supporting schedules align with financial data.
• Conduct bank reconciliations and investigate variances to maintain accuracy in cash reporting.
• Assist with month-end close tasks by updating schedules, verifying transactions, and supporting timely completion of accounting deliverables.

Requirements

• Experience working in a Staff Accountant or Senior Accountant capacity within an accounting environment that requires strong attention to detail.
• Practical knowledge of month-end close processes, including preparation of supporting entries and reconciliations.
• Strong background in general ledger maintenance, journal entry preparation, and account analysis.
• Hands-on experience completing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to contribute immediately in a short-term contract role and manage priorities effectively in a deadline-driven setting.
• Solid attention to detail and the ability to review financial information carefully for completeness and accuracy.
