Staff Accountant

Responsibilities

• Review compensation data across multiple reports, identify discrepancies, and summarize findings for accounting leadership to support accurate financial balancing
• Reconcile salary-related transactions by comparing recorded entries with paid amounts and ensuring differences are researched and resolved
• Prepare and post journal entries using established formats and accounting guidance to maintain accurate ledger activity
• Generate recurring financial and payroll support reports and verify that the underlying data is complete, consistent, and reliable
• Use Excel functions such as XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, and SUMIFS to extract, organize, and analyze salary information from large datasets
• Partner with the accounting coordinator to communicate variances and provide the detail needed to complete month-end balancing activities
• Maintain supporting documentation for reconciliations, calculations, and journal entries to promote audit-ready records
• Absorb additional accounting analysis tied to salary classifications, reclassifications, and general ledger accuracy as needed

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in accounting with a strong understanding of reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger processes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work with lookup formulas and conditional summations
• Ability to compare financial reports, identify variances, and translate findings into clear accounting adjustments
• Experience preparing structured reports and working accurately with data-driven accounting tasks
• Familiarity with tax-related accounting concepts, including corporate tax, sales tax, or corporate tax return support, is beneficial
• Ability to work independently in a Contract role while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Qualifications

Detail-oriented and analytical skills are essential for this role. A bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred, but not required. Strong Excel skills are a must, including advanced functions like XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, and SUMIFS.
