Staff Accountant

About the role

Responsible for ensuring timely completion and oversight of accounting functions and assisting operations in exceeding the expectations of our clients. Supports business unit leaders with analysis, budgeting, and forecasting information to allow their business units to focus on profit-generating activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist Controller/CFO in providing timely and accurate financial reports.
• Apply knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with financial accounting statements.
• Take ownership of the preparation of accurate and timely accrual basis financial statements including standard journal entries, allocations, balance sheets, statement of cash flows, and P&L.
• Assist with publishing standard monthly reporting to finance and business unit leaders, including a detailed P&L and budget-to-actual variance analysis.
• Perform budget variance analysis for various types of budgets.
• Run end-of-month time and labor reports for analysis.
• Assist with coding of expense statements and calculation of expense accrual.
• Reconcile all intercompany accounts, investigating and resolving any variances.
• Complete and review account reconciliations including a detailed analysis of key balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with review of sales tax and calculation of use tax on AP invoices.
• Handle fixed asset accounting and reconciliations.
• Maintain and perform analysis on key performance indicators.
• Assist with preparation of financial models such as scenario planning, capital budgeting, financial statement analysis, and cash flow analysis.
• Prepare documentation and provide supporting documents for external auditors.
• Assist with other accountant’s duties as deemed necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment.
• Occasionally may need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for computer work.

Qualifications

• College/University graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a similar field and 3–5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
• Viewpoint Vista, Great Plains, or ERP experience preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills required.
• Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet timely obligations with many clients.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Requires the use of advanced techniques and knowledge within the function; applies diversified knowledge of principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments.
• Makes decisions independently regarding complexities and methods.
• Personal integrity when working with personal and sensitive financial information.
• Acts as a liaison to groups within and outside the organization with responsibility to act independently regarding matters pertaining to the function.
