Staff Accountant
About the role
Perform desk reviews and on-site reviews of daycare centers and daycare homes, analyzing attendance, enrollment, menu information, and financial information. Prepare written documents supporting professional decisions. Training in the child nutrition program area is provided to ensure confidence working on client projects within the first 30 days.
Responsibilities
- Conduct desk reviews and various on-site audits independently with supervision.
- Conduct research to determine compliance with relevant USDA or other government program regulations.
- Perform all phases of the audit including planning and research, provider calls, fieldwork, desk review work, reporting of findings, and other procedures as required.
- Review applicable Federal and State policies and regulations associated with each specific audit type prior to performing the audit.
- Prepare working papers to document scope and findings of audit.
- Demonstrate excellence in communication skills, analysis, reporting, and process improvement.
- Maintain security and confidentiality of all protected health information when analyzing material.
- Maintain thorough electronic documentation.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Must be able to travel within and out of state 75% based on client and business needs; all travel-related expenses are covered. Actual travel may vary week to week or month to month.
Preferred Qualifications
- GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- CPA or CPA candidate.
- Internship or equivalent working experience in accounting or related field.
- Experience with health and human service program auditing.
- Ability to review statutory/regulatory or other policy language and apply requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Well organized with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively multi-task with planning and efficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize assignments.
- Proficient use of applicable technology, specifically Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
