About the role
We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our Tax Services team in Winston-Salem, NC. This role is ideal for an early-career CPA or experienced public accounting professional who enjoys working closely with clients, delivering high-quality tax and accounting services, and growing within a firm known for long-term client relationships, technical excellence, and a collaborative, people-first culture.
Responsibilities
- Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and non-profit entities
- Assist with accounting, bookkeeping, and financial statement preparation
- Support audit, review, and compilation engagements as assigned
- Research tax regulations and accounting guidance to support compliance and planning
- Identify potential tax savings opportunities and compliance risks for supervisor review
- Communicate with clients to gather information and respond to routine inquiries
- Maintain accurate workpapers and ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and firm policies
- Collaborate with team members to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards
- Contribute to process improvements and efficient workflows
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 2–6 years of public accounting experience or relevant tax/accounting experience
- Working knowledge of GAAP, tax compliance, and accounting principles
- Experience with tax and accounting software such as Ultra Tax, CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, GoSystem, BNA, or similar platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy and professionalism
Qualifications
- CPA license or actively pursuing CPA (preferred)
- Experience in a public accounting firm environment (nice to have)
- Exposure to audit and assurance engagements (nice to have)
- Experience working directly with small business clients (nice to have)
- Progress toward CPA licensure (nice to have)
