About the role
The General Accounting Office (GAO), within the Office of the CFO (OCFO) at Georgetown University, plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of the University's financial records and systems. GAO is responsible for reviewing and processing general ledger transactions, promoting efficient use and stewardship of resources, and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
- Aids in the effective and efficient review and processing of general ledger transactions for the assigned unit.
- Works under tight deadlines and manages multiple accounting activities such as general ledger review, month-end close activities, and special projects.
- Assists with financial reporting, compliance with internal accounting controls, and verification of account activity and balances.
- Prepares support and documentation for monthly closing entries and monitors unit-based fund accounting.
- Completes requested payroll accounting adjustments and deposit tickets for assigned units.
- Supports user acceptance training for Workday financial system updates.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with 2-3 years of progressive experience in financial accounting and reporting.
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills, including the ability to analyze financial transactions and identify areas for improvement.
- Understanding of the University’s cost center hierarchy, chart of accounts, and budgeted accounts to allocate expenses.
- Professional demeanor, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail.
- Experience in a complex higher educational institution or not-for-profit organization is a plus.

Benefits
The position offers a competitive salary range of $47,586.00 - $87,558.13, depending on experience and qualifications.
