Staff Accountant
Contract to hire opportunity with a well-established and respected leader in the commercial construction industry. Onsite in North Portland.
About the role
In this key accounting role, you’ll support the organization’s financial integrity by handling the daily and monthly financial operations, including financial reporting, timekeeping and payroll accounting, account reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with both GAAP and state/federal regulations. You’ll also play a vital part in supporting internal teams with financial insights and system navigation.
Responsibilities
- Process a wide range of financial transactions accurately and on time, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Perform regular account reconciliations to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Investigate and resolve basic discrepancies and escalate complex issues when necessary.
- Ensure strict compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards across all accounting functions.
- Serve as a knowledgeable point of contact for internal departments and external stakeholders regarding financial processes.
- Cross-train across other areas of the accounting department to support team flexibility and efficiency.
Requirements
- Solid foundation in general accounting principles.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical skills and a problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with ERP/accounting systems is a plus.
- Adaptable and flexible in a dynamic work setting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience, ideally within construction or a related industry.

Pay
$32–$39/hour, depending on experience.
