Staff Accountant
About the role
A highly respected independent educational institution in the Baltimore area is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its close-knit finance team. Responsibilities
- Prepare and distribute monthly General Ledger reports to department managers and respond to related inquiries
- Process and record cash receipts and deposits
- Complete monthly sales and use tax filings
- Reconcile bank accounts and other complex General Ledger accounts
- Assist with and process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 200 employees
- Support month-end close activities and other accounting functions as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of full-cycle accounting experience
- Strong account reconciliation skills
- An analytical mindset with the ability to work independently and solve problems proactively
- Payroll experience is preferred, but not required for candidates with strong accounting backgrounds
- Experience in education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations is a plus
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented personality
Qualifications
While not all qualifications are listed above, candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, 3+ years of full-cycle accounting experience, strong account reconciliation skills, an analytical mindset with the ability to work independently and solve problems proactively, and experience in education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
