About the role
Our nonprofit organization is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and ensure the accuracy of financial records. This role works closely with the Controller and Finance team to maintain compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Monitor and track grant funding, restricted funds, and program expenses.
- Assist with payroll processing and related reconciliations.
- Prepare supporting schedules for audits and financial reporting.
- Review employee expense reports for accuracy and policy compliance.
- Help maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Support budget preparation and ad hoc financial analyses.
- Assist with annual Form 990 preparation and other compliance reporting.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
- Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Excel, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Experience with accounting software such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar ERP systems preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Experience
- Nonprofit accounting and grant/fund accounting.
- Audit support and financial statement preparation.
- Payroll and accounts payable processing.
- Experience working with restricted funding and donor reporting requirements.
