Staff Accountant
Responsibilities
- Clear unapplied or unidentified cash in a timely and accurate manner.
- Follow up with providers on changes to the broker of record and ensure updates are reflected correctly in internal systems.
- Apply fees and other fee payments in the internal system, ensuring correct allocation and documentation.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of carriers, carrier contacts, client names, client codes or short names, account numbers, policy numbers, and other identifying information to support efficient commission application.
- Work with the Supervisory Principal and representatives to support revenue reporting, including investigating and resolving missing commissions or discrepancies.
- Liaise with various internal stakeholders to identify and correct reconciliation issues between internal systems.
- Prepare posting reconciliations between bank receipts and cash postings to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records.
- Respond promptly and thoroughly to audit requests from regulatory and internal parties, including FINRA, SEC, D&T, AML, and internal audit teams.
- Assist with converting new businesses and acquisitions onto the company platform, ensuring accurate financial setup and data migration.
Essential Skills
- 1–2 years of accounting or finance experience.
- Hands-on experience with accounting and reconciliation activities.
- Ability to work with fee schedules and apply fees accurately in internal systems.
- Experience supporting reporting and audit-related activities.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Experience working with audit requests from regulatory and internal bodies such as FINRA, SEC, D&T, AML, or internal audit.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining financial records and databases.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid-style arrangement that combines onsite and remote work. You will work onsite every day during the initial training period, which typically lasts 1–2 weeks depending on your background and learning pace. After training, you will be required to be onsite six times per month, with the remaining time spent working remotely. You will use standard office technology and Microsoft Excel extensively, and you will collaborate regularly with internal stakeholders across different departments to support accounting, reconciliation, and audit activities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Urbandale, IA.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
