Staff Accountant
About the role
This Staff Accountant position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies. The role focuses on journal entries, reconciliations, financial analysis, and participation in audits, while also contributing to special projects and ad hoc reporting. It offers a long-term opportunity in an environment undergoing positive financial leadership changes.
This is a Contract to Hire position based in Jacksonville, FL, with a fully onsite work environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes to ensure complete and accurate financial reporting.
- Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger accounts.
- Research and resolve account discrepancies and variances in a thorough and timely manner.
- Support the preparation of financial statements and internal management reports.
- Maintain accounting records and documentation in compliance with company policies and GAAP.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable analysis as needed.
- Participate in financial and operational audits by providing documentation, explanations, and analysis.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support special projects and ad hoc reporting requests from finance and other stakeholders.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all accounting activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Experience working with general ledger accounting and reconciliations.
- Ability to prepare and post journal entries accurately.
- Familiarity with accounts receivable and month-end close processes.
- Ability to maintain organized and compliant accounting records.
Skills
- Experience with ERP or accounting software is a plus (such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, QuickBooks, or similar systems).
- Ability to support accounts payable and accounts receivable analysis.
- Comfort working with financial data to identify trends and variances.
- Willingness to participate in financial and operational audits and special projects.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all financial work.
Work Environment
This role is fully onsite in a downtown Jacksonville office. The team operates under new financial leadership focused on improving processes and aligning systems and reporting for long-term growth. You will work with standard office technology and accounting systems, including Excel and ERP or accounting software. The environment is professional, collaborative, and detail-oriented, with a focus on accurate financial reporting and continuous improvement.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
