About the role
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing and supporting daily accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable and receivable, and month-end and year-end closing activities. The position assists with financial reporting, audits, and analysis while ensuring accurate and timely financial records in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures. The Staff Accountant works collaboratively with internal departments and maintains a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Record and maintain accurate financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Aid with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing procedures.
- Review transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper account coding.
- Aid with preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain organized accounting records and documentation.
- Aid with audits and provide requested financial information and supporting schedules.
- Monitor account balances and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with organizational accounting policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
- Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other departments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three (1–3) years of accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
