About the Role

This job description outlines the general tasks a teacher will perform and be evaluated upon. The teacher will comply with all applicable school policies and guidelines, including those in the Employee Handbook and the Safety Manual. This description aligns with the specific blueprint and educational strategies/goals determined for each level.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
• Direct experience/engagement in a structured instructional environment (e.g., school, church, daycare, or related experience).
• Experience as a program or teacher lead preferred.
• Direct experience/engagement working with special needs individuals (e.g., formal structured settings, familial relationships, or other experience).
• Experience in a structured environment preferred.
• RBT or special education training or certification preferred.

Responsibilities

Professionalism

• Grow in understanding and application of Hanley’s ABA methods.
• Model appropriate age- and developmental-level pairing with students.
• Collaboratively work with all St. Joe’s staff to ensure supervision and engagement for all students.
• Demonstrate flexibility for schedule and/or cohort/content area oversight within a student-needs-focused framework.

Classroom Management

• Maintain class routines to accomplish basic tasks as determined by Administration/Leads.
• Enforce classroom and behavior management policies to provide an orderly atmosphere of mutual respect.
• Apply consistently both the letter and spirit of the school rules in treatment of children, classroom maintenance, and execution of plans.
• Ensure students understand expectations and display acceptable self-discipline.
• Engage with students in accord with ABA principles and training.

Planning and Communication

• Be thoroughly informed about behavior and academic plans for cohort/content area responsibility; communicate with Leads/Administration as needed.
• Follow lesson plans provided by Team Leads for the cohort and/or content area assigned to guide students toward individual goals.
• Be knowledgeable about assigned subjects, reflect interest in each, and use mimetic instruction consistently and appropriately.
• Use approved curriculum guides and blueprints to move students toward mastering learning objectives.
• Prepare necessary materials for substitute teachers.
• Maintain communication with “specials” teachers (art, music, language, etc.) and emphasize their importance to students.
• Attend classes with integrated students as directed by cohort/content area Lead.
• Support classroom teachers by ensuring St. Joseph’s students participate well without undue distraction.
• Support the whole class when dedicated attention to St. Joseph’s students is not required.
• Maintain communication with mainstream Academy teachers when point person for integration.
• Track behavioral data for students where required.

Learning Environment

• Maintain a neat, organized, clean, and stimulating classroom environment with age-appropriate decor.
• Provide sensory-rich classrooms with clear, calm, and consistent spaces for curricular and interpersonal engagement.

Lesson Presentation

• Be thoroughly informed and knowledgeable about assigned subjects, reflecting interest and using mimetic instruction appropriately.
• Articulate a Biblical worldview and apply biblical truth to relevant situations, teaching subjects in a manner consistent with the biblical narrative of redemption.
• Use classical teaching methods appropriate to students’ age.
• Encourage students to see how all subjects are interrelated as parts of God’s integrated universe.
• Memorize all required Bible verses, chronologies, jingles, songs, chants, and catechism answers (over a reasonable time).
• Use clear language, appropriate vocabulary, and correct grammar and spelling in all lesson presentations.
• Employ a variety of teaching methods consistent with the Trivium, including comprehension checks, rephrasing, inductive questioning, recitations, chants, songs, acronyms, summaries, reviews, illustrations, applications, and demonstrations.
• Prioritize interpersonal interaction and physical artifacts, using screens where pedagogically appropriate.
• Ensure rich sensory engagement critical to student knowledge and skill acquisition.
• Model and practice appropriate behavioral interactions in classroom or other contexts.
• Utilize objectives, materials, priorities, and methods prescribed in the curriculum guide.

Student Learning

• Provide classroom opportunities for prayer, worship, fellowship, and teaching of God’s Word.
• Stimulate and maintain students’ interest in material while recognizing and compensating for individual needs.
• Confirm students are making reasonable progress toward curriculum objectives.
• Measure students’ progress using formal and informal means, including quizzes, tests, proficiency exams, games, drills, and contests.
• Measure students’ behavioral progress formally and informally under the direction of Leads/Administration.
• Measure students’ progress as reasonably expected within the bounds of ABA.

Physical Requirements

• Able to sit, talk, hear, and maintain awareness of visitors to the classroom.
• Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
• Able to stand for extended periods of time as needed.
• Able to work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time as needed.
• Able to turn, bend, reach, and occasionally use a ladder if needed.
