About the role

Syngenta Crop Protection is a world market leader headquartered in Switzerland, dedicated to empowering farmers with innovative crop protection technologies that defend against nature's toughest challenges. The Finance Team is seeking a St Gabriel Finance Business Partner based in Greensboro, NC. This role serves as the primary financial steward and strategic advisor for the Saint Gabriel manufacturing site.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver accurate and timely site cost reporting, including manufacturing variances, cost of goods sold (COGS), overhead absorption, and inventory valuation, ensuring financial integrity and compliance with Syngenta standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement in operational and financial processes, reporting tools, and automation to increase efficiency and analytical depth.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver cost-based improvements.
  • Maintain a robust key stakeholder network at the Saint Gabriel site.
  • Lead the annual standard cost-setting process for the site, coordinating with Operations, Procurement, and Supply Chain to ensure rates and Bill of Materials (BOMs) accurately reflect planned production activities.
  • Prepare and manage site budget and Latest Outlook (LO) cycles; proactively bring forward-looking financial insights and partner with site leadership to align financial plans with operational realities, P&S/Finance-level cost targets, and overall strategic priorities.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis (VPC, MFC, Idle) and communicate findings with clear, actionable commentary to site management and the NA CP Production Finance Lead, while ensuring robust financial controls at the site level, comprising cycle count oversight, inventory reconciliation, and audit readiness.
  • Support the capital expenditure (CAPEX) process, comprising project approval, spend tracking, and post-completion reviews across an annual CAPEX envelope of approximately $40M.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • CPA, CMA, or Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6–8 years of finance or accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a manufacturing or site-based finance role.
  • Prior experience in chemicals, crop protection, or a related industry is an advantage.
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Applies hands-on standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, cost accounting, and manufacturing finance expertise to identify cost-base improvement opportunities.
  • Uses SAP FI/CO, ECC or S/4HANA, Power BI, SAC, Excel, and AI-enabled tools to improve reporting, analysis, efficiency, and business value.
  • Uses budgeting, forecasting, and financial close processes.
  • Uses scenario planning to anticipate cost challenges while balancing near-term priorities with long-term strategic goals.

Desired

  • Strong manufacturing finance acumen to understand cost drivers, P&L impacts, inventory implications, and cost-base improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to maintain strong internal controls, support inventory reconciliation and cycle count oversight, and ensure adherence to Syngenta financial policies.
  • Ability to proactively identify inefficiencies, drive process improvements, and adapt to evolving business priorities, transformation requirements, and system changes with minimal disruption.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking, attention to detail, and forward-looking scenario planning to anticipate cost challenges while balancing short-term targets and strategic goals.
