Hours: Variable shift start and end times. 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week. Weekend requirements as needed. No on-call required.
Hourly pay range: $54.67 – $79.00 (minimum to maximum). The actual pay rate and pay grade will depend on experience, skills, education, alignment with internal candidates, marketplace factors, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
- Utilize clinical experience and expertise to assess and facilitate patient access.
- Assist patients, staff, and physicians to maintain high efficiency of operations and customer service while providing quality care.
- Serve as the technical nursing expert for the assigned area.
Responsibilities
Clinical Skills
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge, skill, and technical expertise in the assigned area within scope of practice.
- Triage patients, collect pertinent information, recognize urgency, and route to physicians as needed.
- Return phone calls according to physician instruction and schedule patient appointments.
- Manage all urgent and emergent tasks, including triaging MySharp messages.
- Use well-developed triage and assessment skills to deliver nursing care, including triaging walk-in patients.
- Perform or assist with all tests and procedures in the assigned department; may act as a clinical resource.
- Accurately document patient care per protocol.
- Partner with physicians to continuously expand clinical knowledge.
- Apply universal precautions and follow infection control policies and procedures.
- Participate in clinical projects as directed by the physician or manager.
Department Efficiency and Effectiveness
- Organize and complete daily requirements and responsibilities.
- Manage telephone messages to ensure prompt and efficient return according to policy.
- Monitor patient flow, physician schedules, and complete daily tasks to meet service standards.
- Follow policy and procedure for entering OCM and complete work within assigned hours.
- Respond to changing circumstances, prioritize patient needs, and handle urgent situations calmly.
- Ensure readiness of reports and information to maximize patient visits.
- Maintain appropriate supply levels and use resources cost-consciously.
- Participate in and prepare for site inspections and inventories; complete department inventories per guidelines.
- Enter authorizations and schedule surgeries and procedures accurately and timely.
- Assist in other departments as needed to meet staffing requirements.
Leadership
- Assist with training and education of new and existing staff.
- Proactively support team development and problem-solving to meet department goals.
- Act as a resource and role model for staff.
- Facilitate inter-departmental cooperation and teamwork.
- Adhere to Sharp HealthCare standards of conduct.
Medication Management
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable medications.
- Demonstrate safe and accurate administration techniques with no medication errors.
- Ensure verification by a licensed person and documentation of all medications administered, including two-patient identifier verification.
- Assist with Medical Assistant medication verification in the immediate area.
Nursing Competencies
- Successfully complete Nursing Competencies with a score of 90% or greater in each section (Great).
- Score 90% or greater on all but one section, passing on retesting (Good).
- Unsuccessful in passing more than one section or failing to pass on the second attempt (Needs Improvement).
Quality Initiatives
- Complete Quality Assurance (QA) assignments and ensure department compliance.
- QA scores: 96–100% (Great); 90–95% (Good); below 90% (Needs Improvement).
- Maintain narcotic control procedures, including key management and inventory.
- Assist with prescription reconciliation at the end of the month.
- Support and complete quality initiatives such as P4P, BMI, and DataMart.
Technical Skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of equipment and Information Systems applications.
- Activate emergency procedures per protocol (e.g., code, fire).
- Document patient care events thoroughly and accurately.
- Manage and complete AEHR tasks within prescribed timelines.
- Support and learn new applications and policies (e.g., AEHR, abbreviations).
- Type proficiently and accurately at a minimum of 30 words per minute with 0–2 errors; proofread work.
- Understand insurance, utilization review, scheduling requirements, and front desk responsibilities.
- Operate and maintain department equipment.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- California Registered Nurse (RN) license – CA Board of Registered Nursing (REQUIRED).
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) – American Heart Association (REQUIRED).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- 1 year of RN experience in a related clinical area.
- Triage experience.
- Leadership experience.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (employee provides certificate).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association.
Skills
- IV proficiency.
