Sr. Underwriter

About the role

This individual will support the MountainGuard Program, the largest writer of ski resort insurance in North America. MountainGuard has specialized exclusively in insuring the ski industry since 1962, backed by an “A” Rated, admitted carrier with over 60 years of uninterrupted service. The role is remote or hybrid (if located in a city with an Amwins office), with the home office based in Portsmouth, NH.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal program business based on established guidelines: review applications, coverages, classifications, exposures, financial condition, loss information, and engineering reports.
• Discuss pricing with producers, brokers, or agents and quote accounts within authority.
• Collaborate with the rating department to achieve pricing, terms, and conditions.
• Complete Account Summaries detailing hazards, controls, coverages, terms, pricing, and thought process for each account.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of ISO forms and rules.
• Submit accounts above authority to the underwriting manager and/or company.
• Send out proposals and serve as the primary contact for agents and brokers, acting as the interface between the carrier and agents/brokers.
• Initiate new business development efforts with assigned agents.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and equivalent designation completed or in process with a goal to complete.
• 5-8+ years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience.
• Prior experience underwriting program business, heavy auto, and/or property is a plus.
• Good oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with seasonal volume and with limited supervision.
• Strong customer service commitment and proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Insurance curriculum classes are a plus.
