This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.
About the Role
UNM-Gallup is seeking a highly motivated, student-oriented Senior Tutor to work in the Center for Academic Learning (CAL). The role involves planning and implementing student success initiatives to support a diverse student body as they pursue their educational goals.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic tutoring services to individuals and groups across a diverse student population.
- Lead and coordinate the activities of peer and professional tutors, including strategies to accommodate alternative learning styles and disabilities.
- Create, guide, and oversee tutorial and supplemental instruction programs to assist students with homework, problem-solving, report writing, and test preparation.
- Facilitate reading and writing labs to develop academic skills in writing, math, word processing, and study techniques.
- Maintain and update confidential files and records while adhering to ethical and legal guidelines.
- Research and select learning materials, textbooks, software, and equipment to facilitate tutoring; may design specific handouts, study guides, and related materials.
- Participate in the overall administration of the Center for Academic Learning.
Requirements
- Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours.
- At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Experience coordinating or providing tutoring services to at-risk student populations.
- Experience in higher education, preferably at a community college.
- Experience serving a culturally diverse student population, with demonstrated ability to relate to and support underrepresented students.
- Experience developing and facilitating presentations, workshops, and/or supplemental instruction sessions.
Pay
Hourly: $19.00 - $24.77
