Salary Range: $139,559.00 - $222,932.00. The range represents a national scale; actual salary will depend on role scope, complexity, skills, education, training, credentials, geographic location, and experience. The position may be eligible for an annual bonus payment.

About the role

Multiple positions are available, based in the Philadelphia Branch Office. Candidates will be considered for Trial Attorney II or Senior Trial Attorney roles, with the level determined by the depth and breadth of qualifications and experience.

Represents Erie Insurance and its insureds in litigated matters in Pennsylvania, handling a diverse caseload involving personal injury, property damage, and other insurance-related disputes. Manages all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.

Responsibilities

  • Represents Erie and its insureds in civil litigation from inception through trial and appeal.
  • Assesses liability arguments and damages, offering timely insights and recommendations to support effective claims resolution.
  • Collaborates with claims professionals, experts, and other stakeholders to ensure effective case management and consistent legal strategy.
  • Conducts discovery; takes depositions; prepares witnesses; drafts and argues motions, pleadings, and court filings; attends hearings, pretrial conferences, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Mentors junior attorneys and contributes to team development through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Participates in training and development programs to enhance litigation and trial advocacy skills.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Ten years of civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense.
  • Admitted to practice, and in good standing, in Pennsylvania.
  • Admission to practice in the Federal Courts in Pennsylvania preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Some periodic or overnight travel required.
