Job Summary
The Senior Tools & Implementation Specialist provides advanced expertise in the development, deployment, and optimization of craft and staff training programs for Black & Veatch construction professionals. This position plays a critical leadership role in improving workforce competency, ensuring tool and process adoption, and driving consistent implementation of Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), WorkFace Planning (WFP), and digital construction technologies across all projects.Key Responsibilities
- Program Development & Strategic Support
- Lead the development, maintenance, and implementation of craft and staff training programs that enhance workforce competency and compliance.
- Collaborate with internal groups to identify training gaps and design strategic training plans that support a ONE B&V approach.
- Align training initiatives with project requirements, business-line objectives, and organizational change efforts.
- Support long range planning, budgeting input, and resource forecasting for training programs.
- Curriculum Development & Advanced Instruction
- Lead the creation and continuous improvement of training materials, manuals, presentations, e-learning content, simulations, and job-specific work processes.
- Develop advanced curricula for Coordinators, Superintendents, and Front Line Supervisors using Work Packaging and Plan & Progress workflows.
- Deliver engaging training sessions through classroom, workshop, field mentoring, and virtual environments.
- Ensure training content remains current with project processes, software updates, AWP/WFP best practices, and field needs.
- AWP/WFP & Work Packaging Expertise
- Serve as a subject-matter expert for Advanced Work Packaging, WorkFace Planning, and construction work packaging methodologies.
- Coach project teams on the application of AWP and WFP best practices to maximize planning efficiency and improve progress tracking.
- Ensure training aligns with the established “Path of Construction” and supports organizational goals for predictability and productivity.
- Tracking, Evaluation & Continuous Improvement
- Oversee training scheduling, tracking, and documentation; ensure accurate records of attendance, certifications, and compliance.
- Monitor trainee progress and evaluate learning outcomes through assessments, simulations, and practical application.
- Gather feedback from project managers, field personnel, and stakeholders to improve training offerings and address emerging challenges.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives in training content, delivery models, systems adoption, and field support.
- Collaboration & Communications
- Partner closely with Safety, HR, Quality, Construction Management, and Field Operations to align training solutions with business needs.
- Create high quality communications, presentations, and reports for leadership, meetings, and project briefings.
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership, training, instructional, or construction operations role.
- Open shop and/or union experience required. Direct Hire experience required for Direct Hire assignments.
- Extensive hands-on experience in construction, project management, or industrial field operations.
- Strong knowledge of AWP/WFP, work packaging principles, and field execution processes.
- Proficiency with InEight Plan & Progress, Procore, and related digital project management tools.
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills across diverse audiences (craft, supervision, engineering).
- Strong organizational and project coordination abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) for tracking, reporting, and delivering training.
- Ability to create, edit, and deliver digital training materials using presentation, document, and spreadsheet tools.
- Familiarity with virtual training platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom, WebEx).
- Strong general computer literacy, including file management, digital communication, and basic troubleshooting.
- Experience using or adapting instructional technology tools such as projectors, smart boards, online testing systems, or content authoring tools.
- Ability to work, communicate, and deliver instruction effectively in both in person and remote environments.
- 7+ years field operations or equivalent experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, Education, Engineering, or related field.
- Prior experience leading or mentoring training professionals.
- Experience developing curriculum or leveraging adult learning methodologies.
- Certifications such as Certified WorkFace Planner, AWP University are highly desirable.
- Experience delivering training in-person, virtual, and hybrid formats.
- Strong problem solving, decision making, and analytical skills.
- Ability to influence without direct authority and lead cross-functional initiatives.
