Osmose Utilities Services, Inc. specializes in providing services to the electric utility and telecommunications industries on a national scale. We are seeking Field Data Technicians for the Los Angeles, California area.

About the role

An Osmose Field Technician collects detailed technical information about electric utility and telecommunication facilities and equipment. This outdoor position involves hiking between spans of utility poles to capture data supporting outside plant engineering and fiber-optic construction projects. Some projects may require additional crew members or the use of company vehicles. Osmose will train the ideal candidate to perform all required duties. Routine overnight travel is required, typically 1-2 weeks at a time, with most weekends at home. Occasional out-of-state assignments may involve longer stays of up to a month.

Responsibilities

• Collect field data in an outdoor environment to support the engineering and design of fiber optic cable facilities, including measurements of attachment heights, span distances, and angles.
• Submit organized, detailed data for each project, including maps, field notes, and digital images.
• Maintain good customer and public relations by presenting a professional appearance, being courteous, and communicating clearly and respectfully.
• Uphold a positive company image, including the appearance of the crew, vehicles, and work areas.
• Hire, train, motivate, and supervise a crew of up to ten employees of diverse backgrounds and skill levels (select projects).
• Manage daily work and crew to meet safety, quality, production, expense control, and crew management goals (select projects).
• Organize resources and prioritize work to complete jobs within established time frames.
• Operate vehicles to transport material, equipment, and crew to and from job sites, including utility vehicles (UTVs) and trailer towing as needed (select projects).
• Collect, record, and submit accurate, complete, and timely data related to timekeeping, payroll, and work performed.
• Promote and enforce safety by conducting daily briefings, weekly safety meetings, ensuring safe work practices, monitoring tool condition, and verifying driver qualifications.
• Properly maintain all vehicles, equipment, and tools used by the crew (select projects).
• Maintain adequate inventory of equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.
• Enforce and comply with all company and customer-required policies, including crew member coaching, disciplinary action, a Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace, and prohibition of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
• Operate and maintain equipment, including tablet computers, digital cameras, measuring tools, and Personal Protective Equipment.
• Work professionally in the field as a representative of Osmose and our customers.
• Communicate effectively and daily with the project management team.
• Work safely and independently with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical background preferred.
• Basic knowledge of telecommunications and/or electrical distribution systems is a plus.
• Knowledge of pole design, including NESC requirements and general safety practices, is a plus.
• Enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather and be willing to participate in physically demanding work, lifting 15 to 20 lbs. regularly.
• Basic proficiency with computers, including the ability to read, interpret, and follow GPS maps.
• Crew management experience is a plus.
• Ability to follow process specifications and guidelines in a high-quality, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to travel and work outside in variable terrain and weather conditions.

• Current valid driver’s license held for at least 3 years.

• Minimum 6 months experience traveling to various work locations, including occasional overnight stays.
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

Pay

Senior Field Data Technicians start at $26/hour with opportunities for hourly bonuses and weekly pay. Additional compensation includes hotel expenses, contract-specific pay increases, a living allowance, and $4–$5/hour untaxed reimbursement for vehicle usage.
