About the role
As a Senior Technical Application Engineer, you will lead day-to-day operations in promoting sales, securing orders, and providing quality service to our customers. You will offer proactive, technical product support, evaluate new products, and make stock-level recommendations. This role involves field troubleshooting, customer training, and product application assessments.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the Center of Excellence for your focus area.
- Develop and execute internal and external training strategies.
- Mentor new hires and help coworkers learn the position.
- Provide technical, specialized product support for branches and customers.
- Deliver responsive, high-quality service to meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Contribute to the planning and sale of Border States’ technical products and services.
- Engage in in-depth, technically complex discussions with consultants, customers, and employees regarding product specifications.
- Follow up with customers on quotations, technical inquiries, and other requests.
- Maintain regular contact with customers’ engineering staff and consultants.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of assigned product areas and work with a broad range of products and services.
- Resolve complex product technology issues and assist sales engineers and customers as needed.
- Document TCCM cost savings relevant to your assigned customer base.
- Lead training on new and existing technical product lines and applications.
- Provide field troubleshooting, training, and documentation support.
- Conduct product application assessments, including TCCM savings, material consolidation, alternative materials, and compliance with regional, industry, and national standards.
- Perform product updates and new product launches for branches and customers.
- Assist with trade shows and training programs as needed.
- Deliver technical training and presentations for internal and external customers.
- Maintain functional product demos.
- Provide input to pricing and purchasing departments on product evaluations, code descriptions, inventory management, and pricing developments.
- Utilize SAP processes to support order entry and management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience with technical and business aspects of the focus area.
- Knowledge and technical competence in electrical utility distribution and transmission systems preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint), internet, email, and SAP software preferred.
