About the role

The ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area is a leader in ISR and aviation, serving as a prime manned and unmanned aircraft systems integrator for innovative, high-performance ISR and aviation systems. Its end-to-end Command, Control, Computers, Communications and Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities include design, integration, test, certification, ground/flight training, and complete logistics support. IAS tailors solutions to customer cost, performance, and schedule requirements, consistently exceeding expectations with an unrivaled record of on-time and on- or under-budget deliveries.

SNC is applying its expertise to the U.S. Air Force’s Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) mission. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will contribute to the modernization and delivery of the next-generation SAOC aircraft, which is trusted by the President, Secretary of Defense, and Chairs of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to ensure critical command, control, and communication during national emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit expert-level skills in requirements engineering, systems integration, Verification & Validation (V&V), and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Oversee and lead complex system and decision analysis, technical planning, and risk management activities.
  • Analyze and review software architectures to meet system and hardware-level requirements.
  • Understand different software architectures and recommend modifications to achieve a best-fit approach at minimal cost.
  • Manage major project deliverables and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Leverage deep knowledge in architecture/design development, technical monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Provide strong leadership and effective communication.
  • Mentor and guide team members.

Qualifications

You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related field.
  • Higher-level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Expert proficiency with systems modeling and simulation tools.
  • Proven leadership experience in systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multiple engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams.
  • Thorough understanding of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design; systems integration; technical risk identification and management strategies; and V&V principles.
  • Experience with software testing best practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong configuration management skills.
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory.
  • Experience with virtual machines, containers, and hypervisors.
  • Working knowledge of software concepts, including programming languages, software architecture, and development methodologies.
  • Background in hardware and software integration in lab or operational environments.
  • Experience working with subcontractors/vendors during development and delivery of a product.

We Prefer

  • Extensive background in assessing and addressing aerospace and defense system complexity and system integration challenges.
  • Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team through system baseline definition and maturation exercises in a complex development setting.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Thorough understanding of establishing, tracking, and addressing key programmatic risks.
  • Ability to create and execute regression and acceptance tests for hardware and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and specifications.
  • Previous experience authoring CDRLs and SDRL deliverables.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Hand/finger dexterity for system modeling and documentation.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment with occasional travel.

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required, as this position needs an active U.S. security clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. Adjudicative factors affecting eligibility include allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations, and illegal drug use.
