Sr Supplier Quality Engineer
About the role
You’ll work on the world’s most advanced electronics—from reducing emissions in Paris to powering the Mars Rover and protecting the F-35 fighter jet. As a Principal Supplier Quality Engineer, you’ll implement tools and processes to ensure suppliers deliver first-time quality for high-reliability electronics assemblies. This role requires deep familiarity with IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, and IPC J-STD-002, and involves investigating, resolving, and preventing quality issues through audits, defect analysis, continuous improvement projects, and corrective actions. You’ll assess supplier capabilities, travel to supplier sites (approximately 50% travel, including local and overnight trips), and lead multiple supplier quality projects to completion.
This is a full-time remote position reporting to the Electronics Category Supplier Quality Manager.
Responsibilities
- Utilize supplier scorecards and analytical tools to quantify performance and develop improvement plans.
- Evaluate the impact of nonconforming product and assess suppliers’ corrective actions.
- Champion problem-solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances.
- Perform source inspection of product at supplier locations.
- Perform and evaluate First Article Inspections per AS9102 requirements and train suppliers to meet BAE’s expectations.
- Drive a “Zero Defect” mentality within the supply base.
- Participate in Strategic Sourcing Efforts and Technical Interchange Meetings.
Requirements
- Work experience in a Supplier Quality Engineering role.
- Experience in Aerospace or a Defense Electronics Prime Contract environment.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 Quality System, AS9102C First Article Requirements, AS9145 APQP/PPAP Requirements, and Source Inspection.
- Experience with electrical/mechanical inspections, product test, equipment, and instrumentation.
- Direct knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain logistics from raw material to finished goods.
- Effective, practical problem solver using structured problem-solving methods.
- Strong communication skills to clearly express ideas, requirements, and expectations.
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, and IPC J-STD-002.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience.
- Proficient experience in product production line validation, test, equipment, instrumentation, and qualification of electronic products.
- Previous experience in the PCBA/PWB manufacturing industry.
- Working knowledge of PCBA/CCA inspection/test, equipment, and IPC-A-610 certification.
- Experience with multiple electronics commodities (e.g., CCA/PCBA, RF/MW devices, semiconductors, passives, distributors).
- Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, and Control Plan.
- Practical experience with Lean Manufacturing and Lean Six Sigma.
- Green/Black Belt certification from a recognized organization.
- Working knowledge of Quality Management System principles.
- Eligibility to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance.
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $96,623 – $164,259. Individual salaries are determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, and candidate qualifications.
