Sr Staff Model Based Systems Engineer
About the role
Our team at Lockheed Martin is dedicated to engineering, developing, and integrating new capabilities for the Missile Defense System that protects the United States and its allies. We operate within smaller, agile teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, focusing on Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development, Automated Testing, Cyber Security, and enhancing critical missile defense technologies.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of new system concepts by transforming stakeholder needs into technical approaches.
- Perform requirements elicitation and decomposition using behavioral artifacts such as use cases, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams.
- Lead the development of physical and logical system models using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools.
- Lead system interface development, as captured in Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Descriptions (IDDs).
- Support formal and informal engineering technical reviews.
- Create, review, and critique interface documents, system requirements, verification documentation, architectural documentation, and engineering estimates.
- Interface with key stakeholders, including the MDA customer and working-level counterparts.
- Participate in Agile development planning and execution, including iteration planning and status reporting.
- Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
- Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
This position requires a government security clearance; you must be a U.S. Citizen for consideration. The role involves approximately 10% travel to customer sites throughout the U.S.
Requirements
- A final secret clearance is required for consideration.
- Experience in an integrated team covering the full Systems Engineering Development Lifecycle.
- Proven experience interacting directly with customers to elicit needs and define requirements.
- Hands-on work with missile defense, space defense (Space Domain Awareness), or other similar space mission elements.
- Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools such as Cameo.
Desired Skills
- Strong prior experience with MSOSA (Cameo) and DOORS.
- Demonstrated experience modeling or simulating missile defense applications or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, suborbital mechanics, etc.).
- Knowledge of ballistic and advanced threat systems (e.g., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.).
- Modeling and analysis experience in aspects of the missile defense system (e.g., Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control, C2BMC, MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, etc.).
- Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems.
- Proficiency in AI prompting as it applies to this position.

For Washington state applicants only: Non-represented full-time employees accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) and receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full-time employees accrue 6.67 hours of vacation per month, up to 52 hours of sick leave annually, and receive at least 96 hours for holidays.
Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $129,000.00 - $239,600.00. The salary range is a general guideline and may vary based on factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, and market considerations.
