Sr Staff Accountant - Small Parcel

About the Role

The Senior Staff Accountant performs accounting and finance duties for an Operating Company (OpCo) on behalf of Vistar. They manage various accounting, finance, and administrative functions, working closely with OpCo and Corporate Vistar leadership to interpret, evaluate, and explain financial impacts on reports such as the Profit & Loss (P&L) Statement and Balance Sheet (B/S). The role involves preparing and submitting journal entries, analytics, and reports, as well as leading projects, process development, and team training. The Senior Staff Accountant reports directly to the OpCo Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities

• Manage specific accounting and finance functions for the OpCo, including analyzing, explaining, and improving processes (e.g., request for adjustment/customer credits, accounts payable/receivable, inventory adjustments, payroll, or other financial functions).
• Create, analyze, and interpret reporting for assigned functional responsibilities.
• Lead complex projects, process development, training, and team development initiatives.
• Proactively evaluate and improve departmental processes and efficiencies.
• Prepare journal entries (JEs) and assist with month-end analysis, review, reporting, and financial results for the OpCo.
• Oversee, support, or back up administrative functions as needed (e.g., front desk, phones, scanning, driver logs, driver bags, maintenance scheduling, supply ordering).
• Collaborate with departments, managers, and leadership to gather and interpret information for financial duties.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting deadlines, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
• Review P&L, B/S, and other financial reports throughout the month.
• Cross-train, backfill, or perform similar duties for other OpCos as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3–5 years of General Ledger and Financial Accounting experience.
• Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Pay

$85,000 – $105,000 base salary with 20% annual incentive potential.
