About the role
Vernovis is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to lead operational accounting activities and serve as a critical bridge between Finance and Accounting. The ideal candidate should have 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction, manufacturing, project-based, or operational environments. They should also have strong operational accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, and month-end close skills, as well as experience partnering directly with business leaders.
Responsibilities
- Lead operational accounting activities while serving as the primary accounting partner for assigned business regions.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop 2 direct reports, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Facilitate recurring business review meetings with regional leadership, presenting financial results, analyzing project performance, and discussing operational metrics, forecasting, safety trends, and business risks.
- Serve as the operational accounting partner for assigned business units, collaborating with Financial Analysts and operational leaders to review forecasts, analyze project performance, and ensure financial results accurately reflect business operations.
- Act as the liaison between Finance and Accounting, ensuring financial reporting accurately reflects operational performance while supporting informed business decisions.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and provide recommendations that improve profitability and operational execution.
- Support month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and communication between operational and finance teams.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of operational accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, and month-end close.
- Experience partnering directly with business leaders to explain financial performance and influence operational decisions.
- Previous leadership experience or demonstrated readiness to lead and develop a team.
- Strong financial analysis skills with the ability to identify trends, explain variances, and support forecasting discussions.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and financial modeling.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the confidence to facilitate structured financial review meetings with senior operational leaders.
- Highly organized, analytical, and proactive with a continuous improvement mindset.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
