About the Role

Tandem Diabetes Care creates new possibilities for people living with diabetes, their loved ones, and their healthcare providers through a positively different experience. As a Sr. Software Test Engineer I, you’ll define and lead test projects, own the team’s technical deliverables, and ensure our innovative diabetes technology meets the highest standards of quality and reliability.

This role is hybrid, with a mix of in-office work at our corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA and remote work. You’ll be expected to work in the office 2 days per week, though this may vary based on business demands.

Responsibilities

  • Define and lead test projects by establishing schedules, reviewing test plans, tools, and test automation frameworks.
  • Work with CI systems and modular testing involving subsystems to ensure robust software validation.
  • Own the team’s technical deliverables, coordinate activities, and review detailed configurations and test results for product evaluation reports.
  • Oversee documentation of test operations and report results to software engineering teams.
  • Develop and implement software validation test plans, including preparing and reviewing test plan reports and product evaluations.
  • Lead cross-functional reviews of test plans across teams to ensure alignment and quality.
  • Perform and document software test audits in compliance with test plan procedures.
  • Assist product development engineers in diagnosing and replicating product failures.
  • Work independently to identify solutions that confirm bug fixes and navigate the product development process efficiently.
  • Identify actual or potential problems in test plans and manage time to complete work by assigned deadlines.
  • Record and compile data for documentation of test procedures and prepare reports.
  • Understand software architecture to assess the impact of bug fixes across the entire software platform.
  • Define and develop test tools to verify features and increase automated test coverage.
  • Improve the quality of builds through continuous integration systems and ensure compliance with the IEC 62304 standard.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in software test or quality assurance.
  • Experience as a lead tester who fully participates in specification and clarification of software requirements.
  • Expertise as a test engineer with a deep understanding of the system you support.
  • Experience with creation, Design Change Assessments, and participation in software review boards.
  • Proficiency in proofreading, following detailed work instructions, and projects requiring critical thinking skills.
  • Expertise in using one or more test automation frameworks and associated scripting languages.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of at least one embedded or cloud-based programming language, preferably JavaScript, C, or C#.
  • Ability to read and follow procedures and flow diagrams.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively share information and ideas within and outside the department.
  • Proficient at supporting effective interactions between team members and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule and coordinate project priorities and resources to produce high-quality work.
  • Ability to work with and understand automated insulin delivery algorithms.
  • Experience with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledgeable about CI systems and committed to improving build quality.
  • Conversant with the IEC 62304 standard.

Pay

The starting base pay range for this position is $119,300 to $145,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and may fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market.
