Sr. Software Engineer

Position Type: Contract
Hybrid: 3 days in office & 2 days WFH (must be local to Columbus, Ohio)

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 5–10 years IT experience
• 3–5 years application development in a Microsoft environment
• Leadership experience
• 1–2 years Financial Services industry (preferred)
• Strong knowledge of common software-development concepts, architectures, and processes
• Well-versed in common IT technologies (e.g., Java, .Net, C#, Web, databases, Siebel, or SAP)
• Fully proficient in BMW FS core technologies: C#, ASP, ASP.net, JavaScript, Angular JS, T-SQL
• Familiarity with financial-services lease and loan applications
• Experience in a multi-location, international environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex topics to management at all levels
• Completion of required learning courses: UDAAP and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act

Responsibilities

• System analysis, design, development, and testing for assigned technical products or applications within an Agile/DevOps delivery model
• Extend DevOps responsibilities to include Operations topics and fill Agile roles such as Business Analyst and Scrum Master

Analysis and Design

• Analyze business requirements
• Perform technical analysis of new and existing systems
• Triage and analyze tickets
• Develop design documentation and other relevant collateral
• Estimate work effort
• Support, guide, and lead other associates in understanding legacy systems

Development and Testing

• Coding and configuration
• Code reviews and peer consultations
• Unit testing and unit-test development
• System, integration, and user-acceptance test planning, execution, and support
• Defect management and resolution

Operations and Support

• Steer providers in executing tier-2 support tasks
• Resolve escalated support topics
• Leverage and enhance operations and development tools
• Plan and execute upgrades and replacements to keep hardware and software components supported
• Execute ITSM/ITIL processes to ensure stable operations and SLA alignment

Business Analysis

• Build a strong understanding of assigned business processes, functions, roles, and rules
• Own the functional solution—the big-picture story—of the initiative being delivered
• Collaborate with the Business to elicit requirements, define acceptance criteria, and maintain a prioritized product backlog
• Create user stories to the level of granularity required by the team
• Clarify inconsistencies and bridge gaps between user expectations and the delivered product
• Test deliverables against a user story’s acceptance criteria to validate that the delivered product meets business goals

Scrum Master

• Lead the Agile team in adopting and executing Agile processes
• Plan and facilitate key Agile events: daily scrum, sprint planning, sprint demo, and retrospective meetings
• Collaborate with the Product Owner to manage the Product backlog
• Clear obstacles and enable the efforts of the scrum team

Coordination and Administration

• Coordinate day-to-day activities with team members
• Lead and mentor other team members as appropriate
• Coordinate release planning and off-cycle efforts
• Resolve or escalate risks and issues
• Execute resource planning and time-tracking processes

Innovation and Change

• Balance speed to market, product quality, and cost in the design and implementation of technical solutions
• Develop technical solutions that account for evolving technology and future business requirements
• Execute in an evolving Agile environment

Interactions

Close collaboration with IT colleagues and the Business in the design and implementation of technical solutions. Performance of activities and interactions with internal and external customers through verbal or written communication should reflect adherence to the company’s core values.
