Sr. Software Development Engineer, Amazon Athena - Engine
About the role
The Insights & Extensions team is part of the Athena Engine organizations. This role involves working with other SDEs on the team, partnering with managers and other senior SDEs to build and execute the roadmap. Responsibilities include extending Athena, developing new features, and helping customers extend Athena. The role requires working across the Athena control plane and engine team partners to deliver solutions for customers.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain distributed systems supporting and delighting customers
- Identify gaps in the customer experience and build systems to address them
- Work with other teams to deliver solutions for customers
- Coach and mentor the team
- Learn more about query engines from the team and through experience
- Grow the team's ability to make Athena even easier to use
Requirements
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 4+ years of highly scalable systems experience
- Experience with training and deploying machine learning systems to solve large-scale optimizations, or experience operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets
Skills
- Excellent programming skills
- Independent decision-making with high judgement
- Experience building and maintaining distributed systems

Pay
Base salary range: $184,900.00 - $250,200.00 USD annually
