The Senior Safety Manager - Coatings is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and execution of safety programs and initiatives supporting Niles' coatings operations. This role serves as a mentor to Safety Representatives and Safety Coordinators while partnering closely with operations teams to identify risks, improve safety performance, and strengthen accountability across the organization. The Senior Safety Manager is a key resource in ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. The Senior Safety Manager develops and implements safety programs, drives continuous improvement initiatives, leads incident prevention and investigation efforts, supports customer and regulatory audits, and serves as a trusted advisor to field leadership. This role is responsible for fostering a proactive safety culture that prioritizes employee well-being, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction while supporting the company's continued growth. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Safety Program Leadership Administrative Leader for the Coatings Safety Team.Lead and support the implementation of safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.Maintain strong working knowledge of OSHA standards applicable to work performed by Niles, including coatings, roofing, confined space entry, paint, lead abatement, respiratory protection, fall protection, PPE, and other industrial construction-related activities.Support the Director of Safety and VP of Safety in developing, improving, and expanding company safety programs, processes, and expectations.Help strengthen and expand the Niles safety culture with new employees, field personnel, project teams, and operations leaders.Serve as a reliable safety resource for field personnel, Superintendents, Project Managers, Operations, and other leaders.Provide technical and professional safety support to Project Managers and Operations teams. Field Oversight, Jobsite Audits, and Compliance Travel to and visit jobsites, branch locations, and customer sites to conduct audits, inspections, observations, coaching, and safety assessments.Support internal safety documentation and safety-related compliance requirements.Create and review safety plans, Pre-Task Plans, Job Hazard Analyses, Job Safety Analyses, and other client-required safety documentation.Conduct regular jobsite and work area inspections, including daily field observations and formal weekly jobsite inspections, as needed, in active industrial, manufacturing, construction, refinery, confined space, elevated work, and outdoor environments.Complete safety checklists and inspection documentation, noting safety violations, corrective actions, and follow-up items.Inspect worksites and facilities to identify existing or potential accident and health hazards.Determine corrective or preventative measures when hazards are identified and follow up to ensure corrective actions have been implemented.Work with branch locations to ensure proper safety procedures are in place and being followed.Work with Superintendents and field leaders at project locations to ensure proper safety procedures are in place and being followed.Utilize required PPE and demonstrate safe work practices while performing field safety activities.Exercise the authority and confidence to stop work and intervene when unsafe behavior, activity or conditions are observed. Safety Training and Communication Plan, implement, conduct, or coordinate safety training, including OSHA 10, OSHA 30, Confined Space, CPR/First Aid, Fall Protection, PPE, and other construction or coatings-related training.Identify safety training needs for coatings crews and other field personnel.Learn, use, and train others on proper use of safety equipment.Provide information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential or actual safety hazards and prevent access to hazardous conditions.Communicate safety expectations clearly and consistently across field teams, project teams, and leadership.Support safety meetings, toolbox talks, orientations, and other jobsite safety communications. Incident Investigation, Reporting, and Corrective Action Lead or support investigations of accidents, injuries, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.Cooperate in the preparation of materials and evidence for organizational use in hearings, lawsuits, insurance investigations, or other related matters.Compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.Support incident reporting, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and follow-up.Help identify near misses and report information to Safety leadership to support leading indicator tracking and trend analysis.Establish and maintain required job safety records, reports, and related documentation. Leadership and Cross-Functional Partnership Provide day-to-day safety leadership and coaching to field personnel, project teams, and operations leaders.Partner with Superintendents, Project Managers, Operations leaders, and Safety leadership to proactively address safety concerns.Support the Director of Safety and VP of Safety as needed on department initiatives, audits, reporting, training, investigations, and client requirements.Help promote accountability, consistency, and continuous improvement in safety practices across coatings operations.Model Niles’ Core Values of Care, Trust, and Help in all interactions.Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications 5+ years of safety experience in construction, industrial construction, coatings, roofing, or a related field. Prior experience in a safety-related role with responsibility for field inspections, training, incident investigations, and OSHA compliance. Ability to write and review Safety Plans, PTPs, JHAs, JSAs, and other client or project-specific safety documentation.OSHA 30 certification with a strong knowledge of OSHA standards and safety requirements applicable to Niles’ work, including coatings, respiratory protection, confined space, fall protection, PPE, lead abatement, and general construction safety. Experience conducting jobsite audits, safety inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build credibility and trust, influence others, and coach employees at all levels of the organization, including field personnel, Superintendents, Project Managers, Operation leaders, and senior leadership. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, investigations, corrective actions, and compliance initiatives.Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in fast-paced, high-risk environments.High attention to detail with strong follow-through. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and safety-related documentation systems. Ability to travel regularly to jobsites and customer locations as required. Preferred Qualifications Additional safety certifications such as CHST, CSP, ASP, First Aid/CPR trainer, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, or other relevant safety credentials. Previous people leadership experience.Experience supporting coatings, industrial painting, abrasive blasting, lead abatement, confined space, or heavy industrial construction projects. Experience working with union field personnel or within a multi-site industrial construction environment. Prior experience mentoring or providing guidance to Safety Coordinators, Site Safety Representatives, or field safety personnel.
