Sr. Safety Manager - Charlotte, NC
About the role
Messer Construction Co. is a construction manager and general contractor providing leadership for complex commercial building projects. This position supports the Messer Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Department, focusing on safety inspections, project planning, employee training, and other safety and health services in the Charlotte, NC region.
Responsibilities
- Champion a Zero Injury culture across projects and personnel.
- Understand project schedules for risk planning and develop action plans for regional safety performance.
- Build and manage relationships at all levels, including projects, craft, regional leadership, safety peers, and corporate.
- Maintain a consistent presence on projects, ensuring timely responses to questions or issues.
- Ensure consistent communications and timely delivery on internal projects and tasks.
- Collaborate with Project Management teams on job site safety planning, including:
- Pre-construction safety meetings.
- Contractor safety orientations.
- Weekly site safety inspections and accident/incident investigations.
- Develop and implement a variety of safety programs and training.
- Provide safety knowledge to ensure consistency in safety policies and procedures across all regions and projects.
- Review Contractor PreQualifications and Site-Specific Safety Plans for conformance with Messer and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of new or updated policies, procedures, or task-specific work instructions.
- Ensure emergency response systems, policies, and procedures are in place to manage emergency situations.
- Provide data analysis and reports, regulatory interpretations, and guidance on safety and health policies critical to corporate objectives, operations, and profitability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; preferred concentration in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS). Other areas of study considered.
- 10+ years of leadership experience in the construction industry.
- Technical working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Advanced experience in employee safety training.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
