About the role
The Safety Manager partners with operations to support and strengthen safe execution across projects or regions. This role provides subject matter expertise, coordinates safety efforts, and influences planning and performance to ensure effective implementation of safety programs.
Responsibilities
- Provide safety leadership and guidance to project teams and field supervision
- Build strong relationships with project managers, superintendents, craft personnel, and trade partners
- Serve as the primary safety resource for assigned projects or region
- Mentor, coach, and develop Safety Coordinators and project safety staff
- Advises leadership on safety compliance risks, concerns, and preventative actions
- Implement and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures across projects
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety requirements
- Monitor performance, track regulatory changes, and drive consistency in safety practices
- Administer and support the Drug-Free Workplace program
- Review and influence pre-task plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and overall work planning
- Prioritize hazards and mitigate risk before execution
- Support and deliver safety training, meetings, orientations, and toolbox talks
- Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure safe work environments
- Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis
- Celebrate and implement corrective actions and ensure timely closure and follow-through
- Communicate lessons learned and reinforce best practices across teams
- Track, analyze, and report safety performance metrics and trends
- Support claims management, documentation, and return-to-work processes
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, and compliance activities
- Hold subcontractors accountable to safety standards and expectations
- Provide oversight, mentorship, and development of Safety Coordinators and project safety personnel
Requirements
- Basic understanding of state worker compensation laws and reporting requirements
- Strong organizational skills and time management; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Ability to build trust and influence field leadership and project teams
- Strong communication skills and ability to deliver clear, actionable guidance
- Ability to analyze risk, identify trends, and support problem-solving and decision-making
- Capable of maintaining confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with respect and professionalism
- Must have current driver's license
Qualifications
- 5-8+ years' construction safety experience
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Construction or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Required: OSHA 30
- Optional: OSHA 500, EM385, ASP, CSP
