Sr. Safety Manager

About the Role

The Senior Safety Manager is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of environmental health and safety programs across our locations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, Capstone Logistics guidelines, and site-specific policies. This role promotes a strong safety culture through administering and enforcing safety SOPs, training, risk assessments, and behavior modification programs. The position focuses on reducing the frequency and severity of injuries and accidents while ensuring adherence to all safety processes and government regulations.

Responsibilities

• Implement site-specific Standard Operating Procedures as requested by the company.
• Perform regular site visits and audits in our facilities.
• Verify adherence to federal, state, and local safety rules (such as OSHA).
• Assist site leadership with developing site Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) plans.
• Ensure Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) comply at all locations.
• Partner with the operations team to integrate injury prevention efforts into daily workflows and provide expert guidance on compliance matters.
• Coach regional teams on hazard identification and risk reduction.
• Manage site safety programs and implement improvements to foster a safety-focused work culture.
• Work with site leadership to ensure corrective actions are properly implemented and leading indicators are aligned.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and stay updated on changes to laws and regulations.
• Provide Safety, Health, and Environmental leadership and guidance to our locations.
• Oversee the implementation of Safety Incentive programs on our sites.
• Conduct Root Cause Investigations (RCIs) as required and review safety incidents with partner contacts.
• Collaborate with partners’ EH&S leads to ensure common practices are followed and all personnel are trained.
• Ensure safety programs are in place and audit them across Capstone locations.
• Serve as the Capstone representative for OSHA, EPA, or other state and federal regulatory agencies, addressing site-level issues.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Environmental Safety, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in safety for warehousing and distribution.
• Experience with EPA and OSHA regulations in distribution centers.

Skills

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
• Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to create and implement new safety training lessons and programs.
• Demonstrated warehouse skills with a broad knowledge of warehouse operations.
• Management skills with emphasis on leadership, supervision, motivation, communication, and planning.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to work in a warehouse environment during site visits (concrete floors, changing temperatures).
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking during site visits.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Ability to safely identify and respond to workplace hazards, including moving equipment.
• Ability to effectively receive and communicate information and recognize and respond to workplace safety warnings and hazards.
