Sr Safety Engineer

About the role

As a Sr Safety Engineer at Valero, you will be responsible for understanding and communicating State and Federal safety regulations to refineries. Your role involves developing and implementing cost-effective compliance solutions, collaborating with other businesses within Valero, and supporting corporate Safety staff.

Responsibilities

• Understand and communicate State and Federal safety regulations to refineries.
• Develop and recommend business-driven and cost-effective strategies to comply with regulations.
• Develop and maintain safety procedures and training materials.
• Review plant modifications for safety systems and supporting documentation.
• Interact with agency inspectors to minimize negative impacts.
• Develop and maintain a working knowledge of refineries and processes.
• Lead opportunity projects in the most cost-effective manner.
• Work with refineries and other departments to maintain compliance and implement processes.
• Evaluate process changes and new chemicals for safety impact or compliance.
• Assist in the rolling out of safety programs and conducting safety audits.

Requirements

• Able and willing to work on-site at the Valero Ardmore Refinery.
• Bachelor’s or higher level degree in Engineering or related Science.
• 5 years of safety experience required.
• Experience representing a company to regulatory agencies.

Preferred Requirements

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
