Sr. Renewable Energy Analyst, Market Settlement & Portfolio Valuation - Hybrid (Andover, MA)
About the role
The Opportunity:
The Senior Analyst, as part of the Energy and Commodity Management, Credit & Business Operations team for an international energy company expanding in the US Power markets, will successfully participate in the reconciliation of trading related activities as well as assist in all other Market Settlements and Portfolio Valuation activities. The Senior Analyst will liaise with our Headquarters in Italy and will be involved with business transactions and decisions while interacting with a diverse group of people within front and middle offices, trading compliance, accounting, treasury, global digital solutions, and credit and risk management teams.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of the renewable energy industry and the North American energy markets, including the ISO/RTO settlement protocols.
- Participate and lead process implementation of daily, weekly and monthly settlements of physical and financial trading activities (Accounts Payable/Receivable).
- Collaborate with the Contract and Account Management team to accurately reconcile power plant generation output and pricing as well as settlement and invoicing of Renewable Energy Credits.
- Perform analytical research to determine cause of settlement discrepancies.
- Cook up with the counterparties to proactively and timely resolve invoice reconciliation discrepancies.
- Monitor power and natural gas transactions to ensure they are correctly captured in the transaction management system, ensuring data quality, deal confirmation and communicating impacts to commercial and accounting teams.
- Understand contract details, fees, rates, and payment schedules to ensure all items for settlement are captured in a timely manner.
- Reconcile RTO/ISO statements to estimates and ensure all costs are correctly allocated to the proper generation assets. Develop reporting methodology to accurately present realized fees and P&L to Front Office, Middle Office and Portfolio Management teams.
- Assure accuracy and integrity of activity recorded in general ledger.
- Assure optimization of the financial exposure, particularly referring to collateral, margining and cash deposits.
- Perform month end close accounting entries and account reconciliation.
- Provide support to the accounting team with cross training, ad-hoc reporting, audit inquiries, and process improvements.
- Identify, recommend and implement process improvements around settlement and accounting and other operational processes.
- Track payments and assist in following up with all non-paying counterparties.
- Provide data collection and reporting assistance during internal and external audits.
- Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with trading and reporting standards and other compliance requirements.
- Support the development and improvement of ICT systems to capture and manage trading activities.
Requirements
- Knowledge of and experience with Data Analytics including database development, optimization and interpretation of data, and producing reports from the results of data analysis.
- 4+ years of Accounting or business-related experience in energy companies or Investment banks.
- Knowledge of commodity trading and trading fundamentals in power industry.
- 5+ years Commodity Settlement, Energy Settlement, and/or Scheduling experience.
- Must work and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel within the company.
- Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities as needed.
- Strong Organizational and problem resolution skills, including the ability to meet deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business OR Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business with 3+ years of experience in Accounting or Business.
- Strong analytical, critical and economical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task, grasp complex issues, as well as pay strict attention to details.
- The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a solid understanding of power markets and deal flow with 5-7+ years' experience.
- Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills are critical, as well as a solid foundation with the MS Office Suite, and more specifically Excel. Experience with OATI and power ISOs is required.
- General understanding of energy commodity markets and regional power system operators (e.g. PJM, ERCOT, NYISO, SPP, ISO-NE, IESO, etc.).

Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95,900 - $143,800 annually. The base pay actually offered will be based on several factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, work experience, education, and internal equity.
