Sr. RedHat Engineer / Technical Manager

About the Role
This is a technical leadership role—not people management. The ideal candidate is someone who has directed technology platforms, driven standards, and executed complex engineering work in large-scale environments. You will take ownership of URMC’s enterprise RHEL platform supporting a large, enterprise healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering, lifecycle management, and reliability of URMC’s enterprise RHEL environment.
- Build, configure, patch, and upgrade RHEL systems supporting mission-critical EPIC workloads.
- Develop and maintain automation using Ansible (playbooks, roles, configuration management).
- Create and maintain Bash/Python scripts to support automation, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure uptime and performance for systems supporting thousands of concurrent EPIC users.
- Guide platform direction, influence standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Work closely with the retiring engineer to absorb institutional knowledge and ensure continuity.
Requirements
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with RHEL administration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Ansible: Experience with Ansible for automation, configuration management, or infrastructure-as-code.
- Scripting: Proficiency in Bash; Python scripting is a strong plus.
- Enterprise Scale Operations: Background supporting large, high-availability environments with strict SLAs.
- Virtualization: Experience with enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware or similar).
- Storage Awareness: General understanding of SAN concepts (IBM SVC experience is a plus, not required).
- Professional Traits: Self-directed, accountable, able to manage workload independently, and comfortable owning platform-level responsibilities.

- EPIC Infrastructure Exposure: Experience supporting EPIC environments or healthcare systems.
- Automation Strategy: Ability to help URMC continue maturing its automation footprint.
- Python Development: For deeper automation and tooling.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $58.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
