The Sr. Property Accountant is responsible for managing the accounting and financial reporting activities related to large-scale real estate development and construction projects. This role oversees construction accounting, lender reporting, joint venture accounting, and project financial management while ensuring compliance with GAAP and maintaining accurate financial records. The position works closely with finance, project management, lenders, and external partners to support successful project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with finance teams, contractors, and joint venture partners to support project financial reporting.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly financial reports for lenders, property owners, and joint venture partners.
  • Coordinate property and development audits with external CPA firms.
  • Review and manage monthly construction draw packages, including lien waivers, invoices, and supporting documentation.
  • Oversee project accounts payable and receivable while maintaining accurate job cost coding and work-in-progress (WIP) tracking.
  • Perform bank reconciliations, monitor escrow accounts, and coordinate construction-related wire transfers.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy.
  • Prepare lender compliance certificates and ensure compliance with financing agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in property accounting, project accounting, or construction accounting.
  • Experience in commercial real estate development, construction, or related industries preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of project accounting, capital expenditure (CapEx) tracking, and lender draw processes.
  • Understanding of GAAP and multi-entity accounting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and asset schedules.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Pay and Benefits

Annual base salary: $80,000 – $100,000 USD. Compensation is based on experience, technical expertise, software proficiency, and professional certifications. Additional compensation may include annual performance bonus, flexible paid time off, and a comprehensive benefits package.
