Responsibilities
- Oversee daily and monthly reconciliation of property bank accounts, investigate outstanding items, and ensure issues are cleared promptly.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including fixed asset activity and capitalization entries, while identifying and correcting variances.
- Create and post journal entries related to accruals, reclassifications, depreciation, amortization, and other month-end accounting activity.
- Prepare mortgage and escrow account reconciliations and follow through on any discrepancies to maintain accurate records.
- Review monthly management fee calculations for accuracy before submission for approval.
- Assemble complete property financial reporting packages and provide additional supporting financial information as needed.
- Evaluate account activity and financial trends, then communicate notable findings to support decision-making.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting cycle and provide support for year-end audit and tax preparation requirements.
- Participate in special assignments and ad hoc projects that support the broader accounting team and business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- At least 5 years of accounting experience, with prior exposure to property or real estate accounting strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting practices.
- Proficiency with accounting systems, including Yardi as a preferred platform.
- Experience with month-end close, general ledger activity, and accrual-based accounting.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and solid proficiency with Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe applications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work accurately under tight deadlines, manage competing priorities, and maintain discretion in a paperless, technology-driven environment.
