About the role
Reporting to Manager, Engineering and Design, the Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for being a technical and project lead on the design and execution of overhead transmission and distribution line projects. This role combines technical leadership and project management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with utility standards and regulatory requirements. The Senior Project Engineer will serve as a primary technical resource for Sales Engineers, Project Engineers, and/or Sales Managers, and ensure high-quality deliverables that support safe and reliable energy delivery.
Responsibilities
- Project & Technical Leadership
- Design and review designs of overhead transmission and distribution line projects (typically 4kV–345kV).
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineering/design/drafting teams, ensuring adherence to industry codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for utility clients, consultants, and project stakeholders when needed.
- Line Design & Engineering
- Experience with structural calculations, including sag-tension analysis, pole/structure loading, and clearance verification using PLS Pole and PLS CADD Software.
- Ensure compliance with NESC, RUS, IEEE, ASCE, and utility-specific standards (knowledge of CSA a plus).
- Review and approve drawings, models, and specifications prepared by the team.
- Project Execution & Collaboration
- Manage multiple projects from concept through construction support.
- Collaborate with clients, Sales Engineers, Sales Managers, and Operations teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Consistently communicate and record project progress through all stages.
- Support stakeholder engagement efforts as needed.
- Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety and compliance in all project activities.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience in overhead transmission and distribution line engineering.
- Proficiency with PLS Pole and PLS CADD Software.
- Strong knowledge of NESC, RUS, IEEE, ASCE, and utility-specific standards.
- Experience managing multiple projects from concept through construction support.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (preferred).
