About the role
Reporting to Manager, Engineering and Design, the Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for being a technical and project lead on the design and execution of overhead transmission and distribution line projects. This role combines technical leadership and project management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with utility standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design and review designs of overhead transmission and distribution line projects (typically 4kV–345kV).
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineering/design/drafting teams, ensuring adherence to industry codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Ability to serve as the primary technical contact for utility clients, consultants, and project stakeholders when needed.
- Manage multiple projects from concept through construction support.
- Collaborate with clients, Sales Engineers, Sales Managers, and Operations teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Consistently communicate and record project progress through all stages.
- Support stakeholder engagement efforts as needed.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Promote safety and risk management in all project phases.
- Support audits, inspections, and client reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing training in line design principles and tools.
- Support a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering. 5-10 years of experience in the field.
Skills
- Experience with structural calculations, including sag-tension analysis, pole/structure loading, and clearance verification using PLS Pole and PLS CADD Software.
- Knowledge of NESC, RUS, IEEE, ASCE, and utility-specific standards (knowledge of CSA a plus).
